Ah, the news.

So, I'm not pleased or amused that this fellow hurt himself but this line from a news report about a guy who impaled himself on a fence is classic news reporting.

"Police spokeswoman Renee Witt wrote in a department Web site posting that officers thought the man might have been involved in the reported assault, but he insisted he was just a ninja trying to clear a 4- to 5-foot-tall fence."

A. Ninja.

I wonder if they asked him anything...

Update
Okay, here we go. My cancer has been staged as IA

I met with my oncologist today,  he's an awesome guy who I think might actually be younger than I am and always wears bow ties. He's personable and inspires a great deal of confidence, he explains himself well and speaks to the depth of the person he's talking to. It was fun actually, as I asked more and more complex questions he continued to expand on his explanations and we even had a pretty cool conversation regarding an article that I'd read regarding tumor markers. ANYWAY. The most confounding thing, for me, going into this was the mass in my lung, it complicated a great many things. The mass is still there but has shrunk a fair amount. Both Dr. Lee and Dr. Wain, Dr. Wain is a thoracic doc who does a lot of lung cancer surgery and lung transplant work, feel that the mass isn't cancerous. We're not sure what it is, but for right now we'll all take "not cancer" as a good enough answer. My serum tumor markers have all bottomed out, this is an excellent thing. I'll spare you a long description of the pathology report, that I've had for like 5 weeks now, as it might be skwicky (sp?) for people but the patho report is both very good and not super awesome. On the very good side there was no evidence of cancerous involvement beyond the primary tumor. The not awesome is the makeup of the tumor places me in a high-risk for recurrence group. Even that isn't as bad as it sounds though, it puts me in a 20-30% chance of recurrence bracket. Another tick in the plus column is, again, testicular CA is very respondent to chemo therapy. So, what this means is, my cancer has been caught very early and my cure chance is 90-95%. My doc offered me the choice of surveillance or a fairly major abdominal surgery to dissect the lymph nodes in my tummy. Scratch that, nothing fair about it, it's a major surgery. After I'd opted for the surveillance route I asked him if I was making a mistake and he told me it's what he'd do, as long as I'm going to be compliant (Insert weighty Doctor stare here). So I've got another chest/abdomen CT in 6 weeks. Following that I'm looking at chest X-rays monthly or bimonthly and CTs every 2-3 months for a year. Assuming I'm clear for a year, which would be pretty neat, that schedule ramps downward slowly over the following 3 years ultimately settling in, hypothetically, annual CT and Xrays fer life. I'm okay with that. So yeah, S and I have 6 more weeks of clear sailing, rock on. Thanks to all those who have sent their well wishes along and offered to help out. It's humbling to know that people care enough to offer their help. You're not off the hook yet though! If I *DO* wind up needing chemo I expect to see certain people here (wumpus) in french maid outfits with feather dusters.

More health stuff

So, tentative good news today. I got my blood tumor marker analysis back and all three of them are down, that's good. 2 of the three are back into normal levels and the third, while still elevated is only slightly elevated and the marker in question has a long half life. So, what does this mean? Dunno yet, but it's fairly good news. It does make the lung mass a bit more mysterious as it's now a bit more unlikely that it's a testicular CA met. So it could still be everything I've mentioned previously, but I'm currently running on the notion that *I* don't think I'm unlucky enough to have two entirely separate disease processes firing at the same time. Unless of course the testicular CA wsa divine intervention to help me catch a primary lung cancer while it would still be, potentially, very treatable, then I guess I would be blessed to have Lefty take a bullet for the team. ;) More info when I know more (read: 2 weeks+)  but I feel good about today's news.

Also Widget makes typing nearly ikmpossible.

Yup.

Updatieness

First of all, what a grand event to be able to attend. J&K/K&J's wedding was absolutely fabulous, a perfect event *I* think. It came at the perfect time for S&I, I think. I found it very refreshing to be able to take part in an event that was so joyous and uplifting, kudos, thanks for getting married you two. ;)

Next, thanks to all of you who voiced your well wishes and concerns, it's nice to feel loved, I hope that once I'm fully restored to health and begin my Hellish crusade you can maintain that level of regard. Really, it will go easier for you if you do.

Next next, a couple of peeps have been taken off guard by some of the off-color humor S&I and have been indulging in because they don't know what's up with us just now, so here's the deal, be aware that the words 'testicle' and 'surgery' and 'velociraptor' will be used in the following account..

So yep, that's all for now.  I didn't proof read it, I didn't spell check it, I have cancer so you can go screw! ;)

2.0a...I mean Legacy

So if you've not seen it, here's the first trailer that they're releasing for the general population, I guess, for Tron Legacy. http://paralleluniverse.msn.com/comic-con/video/?g=6d55c9bd-022c-4a80-b98f-2ff611d36b07%26tab=Walt Disney Pictures%26ap=true

It's mostly the footage that people saw earlier this year (?) from the bootleg that was recorded at ComicCon (I think). The ending is different a bit more ominous, an potentially, infuriating.

Timmy!

So, I really dig Tim Burton's creative style and would watch a movie he made about selling suitcases at Walmart. However, having just watched the trailer for his twist on Alice in Wonderland I can't help but wonder if he's gone from "this is my style" to "hey look at how awesome some of my previous movie were! Homage homage damnit!" If you haven't seen the trailer, check it out, it looks decent, I'll see the movie and I expect to really enjoy it. Note though that it seems Alice does, in fact, live in Sleepy Hollow, fall into a hole near the tree the Headless Horseman is buried under and later takes tea with the Hatter next to the very same mill that Burton exploded in this other Johnny Depp movie about this guy from NYC that had to battle Darth Maul in, you guessed it,  Sleepy Hollow.

Because it's been too long since I made a goofy and unimportant post...
I dunno how it is for you, but for me this stuff never gets old. EVER, just like Chuck...

Chuck Norris has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 1983 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoloy card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game UNO.

In the beginning there was nothing...then Chuck Norris Roundhouse kicked that nothing in the face and said "Get a job". That is the story of the universe.  (This may be my new favorite)

Chuck Norris doesn't bowl strikes, he just knocks down one pin and the other nine faint.

James Cameron wanted Chuck Norris to play the Terminator. However, upon reflection, he realized that would have turned his movie into a documentary, so he went with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

If Chuck Norris round-house kicks you, you will die. If Chuck Norris' misses you with the round-house kick, the wind behind the kick will tear out your pancreas.

...and finally...

In a fight between Batman and Darth Vader, the winner would be Chuck Norris.

...no wait, 1 more...

Everybody loves Raymond, except Chuck Norris.

Carry on.

...and once you've carried on, google "Young Chuck Norris" and watch the SNL short. It's not "On a Boat" but it is pretty good.

Oddities
So, I'm in the process of gathering some music as background noise for a tabletop I'm thinking of running and thought I'd look on iTunes for a copy of Das Deutschlandlied. Now, I want a version with lyrics as I'm not entirely certain that everyone I plan to ask if they want to play will recognize the melody of the song. Thus far in my search iTunes only has one with singing and it's a bit too oom-pah-pah biergarten for me. That being said, iTunes does have a karaoke version of the song. Okay, it predates the 30s and all and is a pretty decent song as anthems go, but man, the idea of belting this tune out whilst drunk in a bar is a bit much. I can only imagine some crazy drunk ass karaokists stumbling to pronounce "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, Über alles in der Welt" with the normal hilarity that seems to follow karaoke. Spooky.

Holy COW!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31552029/ns/entertainment-music/

The King of Pop not breathing?! For all that he's been maligned in the news these past...forever I do hope that he's going to pull through okay. More than anything though, in a wild blaze of ego centrism, this article makes me wonder how I'd feel if I'd gotten a response and found the patient to be an MJ level personality. It'd be ultra whacky.

My take on it...

So, Bedlam and I went to see the new Star Trek movie last night. It was freaking awesome. I'm going to see it again. You should go see it again or or the first time and THEN go see it again, twice.

KK..so..
I haven't seen it yet but the new Star Trek is getting really awesome reviews. That I've seen, which I admit didn't involve extensive study, only that ray of sunshine Roger Ebert is saying things like "I hate Christmas" or "Bunnies are overrated." Way to hate Rodge, way to hate. His un'erpants must be too tight. Hater.

Also.

OMG. MUST. SEE. NEW. TREK. MOVIE. BRUCE. GREENWOOD. AS. PIKE! wtf ftw!

A second Repo post.
Upon further consideration I would also offer the following: the soundtrack to Repo, really is astounding.

Typically I don't care what people do with their music, but in this case I'm have to get on the high horse of artist's rights. I'm not really willing to make copies of the music for anybody, but I have it on my ipod and if we're in close proximity anytime soon I'll be only to happy to let you listen to it. A lot of it is really super to listen to, independent of the film, and some of you who may not enjoy the film may still well love the music. So, just putting that out there.

I mean come on:

"It's quick. It's clean. It's pure.
It could change your life, rest assured.
It's the 21st century cure,
And it's my job to steal and rob GRAVES!"

Graverobber is, officially, fucking awesome. To put in in perspective, you who know me, he's just shy of Jack Burton cool. Different kind of cool, but still awesome.

Into a bug a needle...
So it seemed like the thing to do and thus I presented Nora with her copy of Repo a day early. I'd heard a couple of the songs, but avoided most of them for, as one should expect, they give away a fair amount of plot. The songs I had already heard I like a lot and was looking forward to seeing the film, maybe not as much as Nora, but then I don't think -anyone- was so looking forward to it as she. I'll echo her warning that this move is REALLY not going to be for everyone. Further, if it's not for you then I think you'll find it disturbing rather than just not enjoying it. So, it's got a bunch of gore, some creepy sibling interactions and squalor, it is also fucking amazing, The music is nothing short of brilliant, the casting spectacular and the lighting and sets are perfect. If you even -think- you might like this movie than you should take the chance and eyeball it because it really is worth seeing. I was ready to watch it again as soon as we finished the first showing, and yeah - Graverobber is incredible.

So S. introduced me to Funny or Die. I understand the election is over, but it doesn't make this any less awesome:

I mean it's awful. However, it is also awesome in that o.O make it stop sort of way. Work safe.
